Having just completed a 3-week tour of Namibia (Jan/Feb 2012), this is to say how delighted we were with the vehicle (Toyota Hilux 4x4 with air-con) supplied by Caprivi Car Hire. The vehicle was surprisingly comfortable, and very well adapted to the terrain, from the sand around Sossusvlei, the gravel everywhere, and the rocks and steep river crossings in the Kunene River area. We had to drive 17km in heavy rain on a very sandy track on one occasion, and it coped extremely well with that, our most difficult driving day. We were most grateful, also, to Stefanie for following us down the road in Windhoek, when we foolishly left a suitcase on their forecourt when we set off! The transfers to and from the airport were a nice extra to have thrown in. Many thanks again to the whole Caprivi team.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 12-day self-drive holiday in October/November, covering 300km in 12 days. The Toyota Hilux is ideally suited to the local conditions and the camping option is useful in certain locations. The vehicles are well-equipped and maintained and the driving feels safe due to the limited speeds on gravel roads and the lack of other traffic. The double cab option allows the front-seat passenger access the rear-seat for better game-viewing opportunities. Our personal highlights were stays at Sossuvlei Dunes lodge, Mushara Bush Camp, Waterberg lodge and Okonjima Camp. We were also warmly received at the unusual Stiltz Hotel in Swakopmund and by the Grellmann family at Etango Guest Farm near Windhoek airport. The airport transfers were effortless and we are grateful to Stefanie and the rest of the Caprivi Car Hire team for their advice and support (this included the use of the jack, which we needed for a puncture!). You are safely opening up some of the wilder parts of southern Africa to a larger audience. From August 10 to September 21 we have made a 6 weeks tour along the borders of Namib and through parts of Botswana (Chobe, Moremi, Okavango). The Caprivi double tented Hilux 4x4 diesel  not only was a reliable transporter, but also offered a cosy living room with comfortable car-chairs during our drives at day time and a comfortable tent at night time. Although the nights in the Kalahari in August can be freezing cold and an extra sleeping down is advisable then. The 7000 km that we covered were, deliberately, mostly gravel roads with some deep sand tracks in Sossusvlei and Savuti, and some ‘below-the-watersurface’ bridges in Chobe. No problem for the Hilux. The scenery during our drives was overwhelming in its wideness and colors, the wildlife was absolutely impressive, especially in Ethosha and along the Chobe river near Kasane. We mostly camped on spacious spots in regularly beautiful natural settings, with in between some comfortable lodges with soft beds - as the matrasses in the tents needed some physical adaptation in the beginning - warm showers and fast laundry services.

Only one time our ‘beast’ could not pull us through: at the direct northern route to Savuti we got stuck in the deep sand and had to dig out. As the officer at the gate said: “you should have taken the detour”, but that was áfter arrival. Moreover, we got one flat tyre, due to a bended nail!

For the rest of our tour the 4x4 as well as the camping gear proved to be most comfortable and reliable. A problem with a broken zipper of one of the tents was smoothly solved by a repair team that came from Windhoek to Swakopmund to change tents. Also chec

we were 4 people and rented a Toyota Hilux 4x4 double cab for a couple of weeks. The car was equipped with 4 new tyres, plus 2 spare tyres in good conditions and double tank.

Nothing to say about the car: it never stopped nor had problems! 

Service from Caprivi car hire was very good: they were at the airport to meet us and take to the hotel. The explanation given and the briefing before driving the car was clear and complete.  When leaving, they took us to the airport at the right time.

Abbiamo noleggiato una Kia Sportage 2x4 per 15 giorni. 3500 fantastici chilometri senza alcun problema. Servizio puntuale sia all'aereoporto di Windhoek che alla partenza. Strade assolutamente praticabili anche senza 4x4 anche nel Damaraland, almeno fino a Opuwo, via Palwag/Sessfontein. Prezzi buoni (2 ruote di scorta incluse). Attenzione al bagagliaio della Sportage, non gigantesco (la seconda ruota di scorta, se la volete, va messa dietro il sedile anteriore).

Caprivi Car Hire was a breath of fresh air after dealing with two other car hire companies in Windhoek who had terrible insurance policies on their vehicles.
